Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how THE SOCIETY BY BSD LLC (“The Society,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, shares, and retains information about applicants and members. By using our services you agree to this Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide: application details; profile information (name, professional title, specialty, city/location, Instagram handle, photo); account credentials; payment information (processed by our payment processor, not stored by us); and messages and content you submit.
Information from vetting: as part of application review, we may review information that is publicly available about you (for example, professional and social profiles). We do not use third-party consumer-reporting/background-check agencies.
Information collected automatically: usage data, device and log information, and cookies or similar technologies used to operate and secure the portal.
2. How We Use Information
- to review applications and administer membership;
- to operate the portal, sessions, coaching calls, directory, Feed, messaging, and Job Board;
- to process payments and manage billing and renewals;
- to record and administer CE eligibility and credit;
- to communicate with you, including service messages and (with your consent where required) marketing;
- to market and advertise to you, including targeted advertising and building similar (lookalike) audiences, as described in Section 3; and
- to maintain safety, enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines, and comply with law.
3. How We Share Information
3.1 Service providers. We share information with vendors that operate our services under contract. These include providers of payment processing, email and text-message delivery, website and portal hosting, and video conferencing for live sessions, and our continuing education accreditation partner, which receives your CE completion records. These providers may use your information only to perform services for us.
3.2 Member directory. Your profile (name, title, specialty, location, Instagram handle, photo) is visible to other members in the Member Directory so members can connect. You can hide your entire profile from the directory, or hide individual fields such as your Instagram handle, at any time using the directory visibility settings in the portal.
3.3 Advertising. We use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies, and we share online identifiers (such as a hashed email or phone number and device or cookie identifiers) with advertising platforms like Meta and Google. We do this to show you and people like you our ads, to retarget past visitors, and to build similar (lookalike) audiences. Under some state laws, including California, this counts as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out at any time (see Section 5).
3.4 What we do not do. We do not sell your personal information for money. We do not give Preferred Partners, sponsors, or other advertisers direct access to member data or the member directory.
3.5 Legal and safety. We may disclose information where required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of The Society, our members, or others. We may also share information in connection with a business transfer.
4. Marketing Communications
Email. We may send you membership and marketing emails. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in the email. Service and transactional emails (billing, security, CE) are not marketing and may still be sent.
Text messages (SMS). We send marketing texts only to members who have separately opted in. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP. Message and data rates may apply. See the SMS consent language captured at sign-up.
5. Your Choices & Rights
- Directory visibility: show or hide your whole profile, or individual fields, in the Member Directory.
- Messaging: control who can message you (Anyone, Requests only, or No messages); new members default to Requests only.
- Email: unsubscribe from marketing emails.
- SMS: reply STOP to opt out of texts.
- Targeted advertising: opt out of ad targeting and the “sharing” described in Section 3 using the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link in our website footer, or by sending a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser.
- Access and deletion: you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting support@insidethesociety.com, subject to the retention rules below.
Depending on where you live (for example, California residents, and members outside the United States), you may have additional rights over your personal information. We will honor applicable rights; contact support@insidethesociety.com.
6. Account Deletion & Data Retention
You can delete your account from the portal. When you delete your account, we remove or de-identify your profile and personal information from the active service. However, we retain certain records after account deletion where we are required or permitted to do so, including:
- Consent records (including SMS/marketing consent): retained approximately [5] years to comply with telemarketing and consumer-protection law;
- CE completion and credit records: retained as required by our accreditation partner and applicable rules [per accreditor; commonly several years];
- Payment and transaction records: retained approximately [7] years for tax and accounting;
- Application and eligibility (vetting) records: retained approximately [2] years; and records we must keep to resolve disputes, enforce agreements, or comply with legal obligations.
7. Data Security & Breach Notification
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affecting your personal information occurs, we will notify affected individuals and authorities as required by applicable law, including Florida law.
8. Age
The Society is intended for dental professionals and dental professionals in training and is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
9. Changes
